If you're thinking seriously about getting a Nintendo 3DS, you probably have many purchasing questions in your head. But before you invest too much time researching games and accessories, let's start with answering the important question of all -- which Nintendo 3DS colour best suits you?
Perhaps it's the brand new Midnight Purple which launched May 20 and is available now to buy.
Now before you call me crazy for thinking colour is such an important decision, consider that the Nintendo 3DS is only one year old, meaning there's still plenty of years left in the handheld's life. Since you're going to be using your Nintendo 3DS for the foreseeable future, it might as well look good while you're doing so.
In addition to Midnight Purple, the other official Nintendo 3DS colours are Pearl Pink, Flame Red, Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue.
From a practical perspective, there are reasons why colour is so important. Perhaps you live in a family of gamers and other members also have, or are thinking about, picking up a Nintendo 3DS. The fastest and easiest way to know which system to grab as you're rushing out to school or work is by colour. It makes good, practical sense for each family member to have their own unique colour.
Likewise, I always recommend picking a colour that complements, while also slightly contrasts, with your overall colour palette at home. For example, at my home most of my furniture is black including my couch, coffee table and entertainment unit, and with a black TV remote, iPhone, and PS Vita, everything is, well, black. That's why I prefer the Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS (while avoiding the Cosmo Black) to add some variety to my room, while also being a heck of a lot easier to spot in a pinch.
Of course, the largest influencers of what colour you're drawn to will be your style and personality. Perhaps you like the sophisticated look of Cosmo Black, the intensity of Red Flame, or the feminine flare of Pearl Pink. The new Midnight Purple is undeniably pretty slick, with its regal look and deep hue. The new colour also has the newness factor since it has only been available since last week.
The bottom line is make sure the colour that you ultimately decide to buy is one you feel will maximize your enjoyment for many years to come. While it may seem trivial at first, selecting the right colour can benefit you on a practical and personal level. As an example, it's been several years since I picked up my Midnight Blue Nintendo DSi and not only is it easy to spot no matter where I set it down in my house, it's a cool colour to look at while gaming on the go.
