Knack - Review

At the Sony PlayStation 4 reveal event last February, the unveiling of Knack was an exciting moment. My interest was immediately piqued when veteran game designer Mark Cerny stepped on stage and announced his role as creative director for the game. This is a guy whose impressive résumé includes some of the all-time greatest platforming classics like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. What further made Cerny’s involvement appealing is that he’s also the lead architect for the PS4 hardware itself; so, I reasoned, if anyone could maximize the capabilities of the system for a launch title, it would be him. Add in the fact that Sony has a long history of creating extremely successful new franchises to support their new game consoles, with games like Twisted Metal, Jak & Daxter and Uncharted immediately springing to mind, and all the pieces seemed to be in place.
