As revealed on the PlayStation Blog last month, Sony has released its first-ever Walmart exclusive controller — the Icon Blue Special Edition PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller. I was lucky enough to get a unit shipped from Sony, and wow is this controller beautiful. I've collected dozens of PlayStation controllers over the 30-plus years of being a fan, and dare I say this might be their best controller yet. Gorgeous Two Tone Blue
What struck me immediately after unboxing the Icon Blue DualSense is the striking layered shades of blue. These colours, which are inspired by PlayStation's iconic blues, look deep and rich, evoking the feelings of awe and wonder that have defined the brand since its beginning. There's a level of prestige holding this controller, as if you're an important piece of PlayStation history.
Iconic Touchpad Symbols
The touchpad has always been a focal point and centerpiece of the DualSense controller, but on this controller the iconic feature stands out even more. Across the touchpad is a glossy pattern of PlayStation shapes that has a unique glowing effects as you tilt the controller through light. PlayStation fans have such a strong love for the four symbols—Circle, Square, Triangle and Cross—and the touchpad evokes wonderful memories of gaming on PlayStation consoles over the years.
Historic Controller Back
Flipping the Icon Blue controller over reveals something special. In a nod to PlayStation's Japanese heritage, it features the katakana プレイステーション in a bold font. As someone who grew up playing iconic Japanese franchises on my PlayStation consoles, like Metal Gear, Tekken, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil, the Japanese text is a reminder of the years spent playing these amazing franchises.
